4 Signs Your Lover Is Lying

by Guest Author on November 19, 2009

It could be said that the most frustrating part of any relationship happens when you think your partner is lying to you about something. In truth, the worst part is when you know they’re lying, but they won’t admit it.

I hope that all of you coupled-up folks out there are not having to deal with this but instead have evolved past the need for petty lies and are rejoicing happily in the bright, sunny fields of mutual respect, love and honesty.

But most of us live in the real world. And in the real world, otherwise wonderful and perfect partners get drunk and come on strong to strangers at parties. They lie to us about it and we need some help in figuring out if they’re telling tales out of school or if we’re just being paranoid. To help things along, here’s a little cheat sheet;

1. Repeating what you say

Repeating what you say. It’s a tell tale sign that someone is not being quite honest when he or she repeats your question before giving an answer. It just gives them more time to make something up. You probably did this in school when the teacher asked you a question to which you didn’t know the answer. It’s a simple stall technique. If your sweetie plays this copy cat game, you need to dig deeper.

2. Check their eyes

It’s said that eyes are the windows to the soul. In the case of a liar, he or she will not want to look straight into yours unless he or she is a pathological liar in which case you should just cut and run. If your lover is shifty eyed, take a glance at his or her pupils. If they’re spinning lies, their pupils will likely be dilated.

3. Discrepancies

Here’s a stupid scenario that is repeated time and time again. Your partner, the love of your life, went out for a night on the town with the boys (or girls as the case may be). And you have solid proof that he or she was misbehaving. When asked, your idiot partner, who obviously thinks you’re brain dead, keeps changing his story every time it’s told. Now here’s the thing. Even if we’re stressed we’re not going to forget the truth

As a matter of fact, if he (or she) was being honest, they’d hammer home the same story over and over again to make you understand. If their account is a shape shifter kind of deal, then it’s likely made up.

4. He/She is too defensive

This one can be tricky; if you go on the attack the response will be a defensive one which will make your partner look guilty even if he or she isn’t. If however you use a reasonable tone and the level of defense is out of proportion that could be their guilt swimming to the surface. Closely related to being too defensive is the use of language that is overly convincing.
