Causes Behind Acne Scars And Their Treatment Options

by Guest Author on November 18, 2009

Acne is an a matter of serious concern, especially for teenage girls, as it sprouts up suddenly and its marks stay long after the acne is gone. Howsoever you abhor it, acne is a part of most teenagers’ lives and a lot of effort should be put in battling these ugly little things and preventing their reappearance.

Acne is a condition caused due to the reaction of bacteria and too much of sebum secretion by the glands in the skin. During the healing process of this infection, a fibrous protein called collagen is formed. When the collagen is in excess, there is a swelling and when its generation is below normal then it results in tiny craters on the skin. Either of these factors can give rise to acne scars. Adolescents usually suffer more than others as the levels of hormones rise at a high rate at the time of puberty leading to increased secretion of sebum.

Some of the usual factors that lead to an acne infection include consumption of medicines, frequent use of oral contraceptives, applying cosmetics that do not go with the skin type and hereditary reasons. A number of lifestyle aspects including food that is not healthy enough and mental strain can also cause acne. But as against what most people believe, scientists have not discovered any relation between oily food and acne.

Although a variety of creams and herbal skin care products are available in the market to deal with acne, it is advisable to take medical help if the condition worsens or continues recurring. In order to ensure that acne does not increase, it is advisable to abstain from pinching the lesion or piercing it with sharp things.

A growing number of people are also resorting to cosmetic treatments to get rid of acne scars and to regain a spotless skin. In addition to surgery and laser treatment that are among the most successful treatments in making acne scars go away, there are numerous other innovative therapies too. You must visit a reputed skin doctor who would be able to determine your skin type and suggest an appropriate treatment.
