Naturally, people hope to achieve a good life. Most people equate this with having a successful career and personal life, and they devote the majority of their time to this. Unfortunately, this means they often ignore an important component in living the good life: their health and fitness levels.

Part of living a good life means also living a balanced life. Significant physical and emotional health problems can from maintaining an unbalanced life, which often happens when you ignore the need for physical activity.

This need for balance is often what leads people to lace up their sneakers and start running, as running has been proven to be effective for warding off physical ailments as well as those caused by stress. Being in good physical condition as well as managing stress effectively leads a person to a very well balanced, good life, and this is just one of the many benefits of running.

It has been said that running burns more calories per hour than any other form of cardiovascular exercise. Exactly how many calories depends on many factors, including speed, distance, and terrain, though it is safe to say that even light jogging can burn several hundred calories an hour. It also exercises several major muscle groups at once.

Running also slows down the aging process by encouraging the production of human growth hormone. In addition, it severely inhibits muscle and bone loss as you age.

Running requires very little initial investment. All you need to slow down the aging process and increase your overall level of health is a pair of sneakers and some comfortable clothes. And one of the greatest benefits of running is that it can be done anywhere – you can start right outside your own front door! This simplicity makes it a perfect hobby for those with limited finances or those who want to stay away from complicated, gear-intensive sports.

If you think about people that you admire for living a good life, chances are they include some sort of physical activity routine in their daily schedule to help them reduce stress and stay fit. Why not take up running as a way to help you live a good life, too?
