Man Boobs Information You May Want to Know – Are They Normal and Who Are Susceptible?

by Jeremi Hani on November 15, 2009

Men sometimes develop female’s breasts. This normal condition is known as man boobs. Man boobs begin as a protrusion under the nipple area. It generally affects both breasts but it can often occur at only one side.

Gynecosmastia is the term used by medical experts on this condition. It is common in males that are undergoing puberty. According to researches, more than 30% of males all over the world are susceptible to this condition. Sometimes, few men didn’t realize that they had suffer from this condition because it disappear due time. But for some men, man boobs are becoming a disturbance because it won’t regress.

In the whole lifespan of a man, he may suffer from Gynecosmastia at least once. On the first time a man sees a light, he will be susceptible to developing a female’s breast. As a newborn, the enlargement of the breast is associated to milk flow. As he age, the sign of Gynecosmastia will slowly diminish. The maximum time for the condition to stay in a baby is two years.

Once he reached puberty, he will again be susceptible to breast enlargement due to testosterone imbalance in his body. The level of his testosterone is fluctuating as he undergoes different stages of puberty. If the production of testosterone in his body is greater than that of estrogen, the signs of Gynecosmastia will vanish. Unfortunately, there is also a chance that the condition won’t change.

The last one is during adult years. Adult males, ages 50 and above are also susceptible to Gynecosmastia. Usually, the causes of this condition in adult males are: obesity, drugs, diets and sometimes health problems.

Excessive body fat is the biggest factor that contributes to Gynecosmastia. In fact, this condition is too common in obese men that most people ignore it. With weight loss, the symptoms might disappear. If this is your case, this means that your condition is only the result of excessive body fats.

Unfortunately, in some cases, the condition won’t go away after weight loss. This means that the male breasts have both fat and glandular tissue. If there is too much glandular tissue, probably the most effective method to remove Gynecosmastia is through surgery.

Though you shouldn’t worry about your health with Gynecosmastia, its psychological impacts must not be overlooked. For you, this might lower your ego and self-esteem. In cases that it already causes disturbance in your lifestyle, you should treat it as soon as possible.
